Changes in the practice - June 2019 ( posted on Jun 6, 2019 )

Changes Commencing in June 2019

From the end of June there will be two important changes to the way we work at the practice. We hope that these changes will improve telephone access for patients and will also release time for GP’s to see more patients.

 1.   From Thursday 27th June: Telephone system:

Our telephone system is becoming more structured and will have more options available at different times of the day. The focus first thing in the mornings will be purely on dealing with appointments requests and emergencies, with other options available later in day, such as an option for the secretary as well as blood test results and prescription queries. We will also be able to monitor the traffic on the telephones using monitoring software, to ensure our staffing levels reflect the demand at peak times of the days.

2. Week commencing 17th June: Telephone triage appointment requests will only be taken up to 11.30am:

Currently the GP’s & Nurses operate a telephone triage system where all on the day requests are added to a triage list for either the GP or Nurse. They usually then advise the receptionist of the appropriate action for the patient or call the patient back themselves if it is something which can be dealt with over the phone. Currently this system runs throughout the day and thus it is difficult to plan appointments around this and manage all of the daily tasks of checking blood test results, signing prescriptions and reading patient correspondence. By structuring the day like this we hope to work more efficiently.

We appreciate your support and patience whilst we make these changes. Please bear in mind the receptionists are doing their upmost to help you and are acting in accordance with what they have been asked to do by the GP partners. If you have concerns, a complaint or a compliment you can ask to speak to a manager at the Practice at any time.

Data Sharing ( posted on Mar 23, 2017 )

Patients may have heard via the media of an issue in connection with Data Sharing. This is when a patient's medical record is shared outside of the Practice with another NHS Organisation. Consent can be given/refused either expressly or by implication.

Where no details of consent are held on file, by default the Practice has assumed an implied consent exists to share the record. Sharing is tightly controlled but the Information Commisioner (ICO) has expressed concerns about security. They have contacted TPP who produce our medical record keeping system called SystmOne.

The Practice has held a meeting to discuss the matter and decided for now that implied consent should remain. However, high level meetings are currently taking place between the ICO, TPP, Local Medical Council, British Medical Association and NHS Digital. Once further advice or information is avaialble, the Practice will review the decision.

Should any patient be concerned and expressly wish for their record to not be shared, it can easily be arranged. Please let Reception know, ideally in writing.

Further information about Data Sharing is available on this website

Norovirus ( posted on Apr 5, 2014 )

It is that time of year where we see norovirus (sickness or diarrhoea) circulating in the community.

If you have symptoms please do not come to the Practice as unfortunately there is no treatment unless symptoms become serious. We will be pleased to provide telephone advice.

To avoid catching or spreading it, our advice is to wash your hands as a matter of routine with hot, soapy water. Hand sanitisers and alcohol gel will work against some bacteria and flu viruses but they will not protect you against norovirus.

Thank you for your support.

Should you receive this email, please contact the Police.

Get the right treatment ... ( posted on Dec 5, 2013 )

If someone in your family needs medical attention, do you know where to get the right treatment?

You may have heard about the pressure on Accident and Emergency (A & E) departments, especially during Winter. Many people inappropriately attend due to a simple lack of knowledge about where to get help.

Nearly HALF of all A & E arrivals are sent home without treatment!

We have a simple free guide called "Get the right treatment... " that contains information about services at our Practice, self-care help, using pharmacies, NHS choices website, using the Walk-In Centre, using the Minor Injuries Unit, out of hours, the 111 service, dealing with dental problems, the Swift and Night Owl Service and when to visit the A & E department.

Please call into the Practice and collect a copy or download here.

Correctly using the right service may save you a lot of time and will help ensure the Emergency department is available for those really needing it.
